New computer looking for help and suggestions.

I feel like this is a little off topic in this forum but only the mods can start threads in the help forum.

After nine or ten years on my old Dell with no problems I got a shiny new one with Windows 7, old one has XP. I have high speed verizon with modem and want to know if I can hook these two computers up directly somehow to transfer files.

I also would like to know if it is possible to transfer my bookmarks on firefox instead of somewhat tedious task of e-mailing them to myself.

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Yes it's easy but would take me a ton of space and time to type it all out . First what I would do is search the interweb on your favorite search engine aka Google or Yahoo and use this search term " how to share files windows 7 to xp " . There's tons of info out there including videos that will walk you though it .

Follow this link to a web page from Firefox about your bookmarks !!! Share bookmarks, tabs and more with your other computers | How to | Firefox Help Seems simpler then the old way I use to use ! Let me know if it works .

Syncing the firefox worked fine, a little tedious but much easier than manual transfer.

No, haven't had time to set up computer to computer hook up yet. I am not sure about how many files there are, most are in "my documents" and I may try a memory stick but would also like to know how to hook them together.

If they both have Ethernet a crossover cable would connect the two computers. Another way to do it would be to use a router to make a home network which would not only allow you to move files from one PC to another but also to get both online. Either way you'd have to turn file sharing on on the old puter so the new puter could "see inside" the old one. A memory stick is probably the most foolproof method.
