    When is Enough, Enough?

When the “Powers to be” decided to merge Roadway into Yellow, in a down turned economy, no one came to us (they damn sure didn't ask me), they just did it. Had someone asked, my reply would have been, “Are ya friggin nuts? It took ABF years to dig out after buying Carolina and that was when everyone was making money!

When this blew up in their faces (who da thunk?) they did come crawling to us asking for help. They out and out lied saying it was a “shared sacrifice”.

Then, they came back for more and we gave. 15% of our pay, 75% of our pension contributions and gutting what was left of our contract, we are now working under a paper contract....sub-standard.

They decided to go with Roadways IT program because it would save 10 million and we are now trying to compete in 2012 with 1970's technology. How many 100's of millions have we lost because of that decision? We can't keep tract of trailers in our own yard let alone out in the system.

Management that did know a little about moving freight was fired and replaced with a bunch of stot nosed kids that couldn’t manage a pillow fight but, they sure can kiss ass!

They took away our in-house billing, adopting Roadways centralized billing and now we can't get the bills we need to move the freight.

After being laid off for 2 years, I was finely called back and now, because of the pay reduction I have to work overtime to just get the bills payed ( before anyone says it, I do live within my means). We now have a terminal manager that is a punk ass bully that pushes his weight around, writing chicken **** letters and suspending/firing guys for petty **** just because he can and our Union representation is....shall we say....lacking.

After all that we have givvin and after bending over backwards to try to keep the doors open, management now wants to take away any hope of ever being able to work our way back to a Monday- Friday job, to be able to spend time with our familys (since being called back, I have missed all 3 of my grandsons birthdays, numerous family outings and my stepdaughters graduation from collage).

When is ENOUGH going to be ENOUGH?

It was enough for me when they took away the LOA and gave nothing in return and people agreed to 25% pension, resigned spring 2011.

When I started in line-haul while wrorking for Roadway, I NEVER had to carry the bills with me, and yet they always knew what was on the trailer when I arrived at my destination terminal, even the larger terminals knew what I had on the trailers and what door to put it in. I could walk across a relatively CLEAN dock that was maintained that way. The dispatchers/load planners would have us move the loaded trailers without having to call Central Dispatch asking for permission. I never worked the dock but it seems as though the problems didn't start till Yellow management were entered into the mix. From DAY ONE the problems started when they killed two companies and slammed what was left into what we have now.Things are better now than they were in the beginning of the merger but can always get better. My point is, it's been 3yrs, learn to deal with the cards you are dealt or get out of the game........I wish GOOD LUCK to you and eveyone else, but if we keep focusing on the past, we will have NO FUTURE..........
