I actually think the union gave the company way too much time.i think it shouldve been on a yearly basis.benchmarks established.

    Chicago 309

The only response I get when I tell people that 309 is hiring is, OH HELL NO!

the company used the "worst economy in recent history " excuse to HOSE US .some of us know it out loud and the rest know it in their hearts.
yrc has stuck to the oh poor me we are broke BS and now its backfired on them.
who would want to work for a company thats broke and has sucked to life out of their workers.
all the long giving them self raise after raise .

Well yes,ill grant you that the economy isnt as bad as it was.seems like these changes that were made.have made it a little bit slower for us.even though the freight is there.it seems like its still messed up.the company is still hauling time criticals.and some velocity stuff.nothing changed as far as service.they added more sleepers to our terminal in 511.we were doing fine before the sleepers were added.

Same thing here. The problem is that YRCF does not know how to recruit and keep new hires, especially line haul drivers. They never had to, so they have no idea on how to do it. When you have worked non-union as I have , the benefits far and away outweigh the negatives. We just have to be able to
honestly inform the prospective new hires that this is a great place to work. Will we keep everyone that comes on...no. No company does.

KK, Im not going to disagree with what your saying, but maybe you could elaborate on why the IBT quit trying to unionize one of the worst companies out there?? I know alot of the drivers at Conway and from talking to them the union reps dont return phone calls and have quit talking to the men all together.. From talking to a good friend of mine, the Teamster vote passed locally and per the gentleman who was the organizer the IBT was told to put this all on hold and the men have more or less said to h@*l with it.. I think in order to get these guys to join you have to keep the momentum going and instead it all seems to come to an abrupt halt..

I would like to add.... A lot of drivers that might be looking for a new job will talk to other drivers out there whether it be at a warehouse, truck stop, or CB. Unfortunately, YRC has a lot of "badwill" ambassadors out there because there are many old timers that will tell anyone years ago they were a "29 day wonder" for a union company (I know Yellow Freight did a lot of this back in the day) or some more recent ex drivers that lost their job because of the Yellow and Roadway merger. These people have every right to share their experiences and if they have an ax to grind, I don't blame them one bit.

In addition, look at the drivers in the last year that have voluntarily quit because they found something else. We're talking about people not old enough to retire with 10-15 or more years just up and leaving right now; never used to happen because people only died or retired at Yellow and Roadway.

As far as the open letter to upper management, at least in my experience of 17+ years of dealing both with Roadway and Yellow upper management even before the merger (I worked for Roadway as a combo casual for 2 years at 211 then have been with Yellow/YRC the last 15 mostly at 218) they do not care. You are a nobody to them, you always will be, and they think you should should think that you have the greatest job in the world. Again my statement only applies to upper management, most of the regular dock supervisors and dispatchers I've worked for are decent people.

With all due respect I disagree with you about the Co "Not caring" everytime I have ask a question or had a major Complant somebody higher up the food chain did something and my questions were answered. As for 20 years ago? Your right, We were nothing but overpaid steering wheel holders on the road and overpriced labor on the dock. Things have changed a little since then.
But you are correct about, As you call them, "Badwill" ambassadors. Remember a lot of these People have a reason to fell that way. This Company has a way to go to change it's reputation.
