They only made that break even; with the massive subcontracting that is going on.

Yep, and now someone has posted that they are cutting rates with all costs going up? If they do cut their rates the ugly is only going to get uglier.

No carrier is cutting rates. All will follow suit with Fed Ex to raise theirs, they always do. There will always be markets or single accounts that get an updated discount to get freight on the trucks, it's the nature of the business but a all around rate cut will not happen any time soon. Carriers are still trying to get back the the 2008 rate bases that made everyone money.

Sounds like your friend wants to go home early everyday! Tell him to look at some other centers pickup screen! Still going strong after 5! Company wants small centers to have all pickups confirmed by 6 for linehaul projections. Large centers as soon as they can.

Yes, price hikes are inevitable and normal with all raising their rates at about the same time. I don't know where he heard that UPS Freight was going to lower theirs but I hope it is misinformation.

when there is no freight you can lower rates a bit and get away with it... I think there is too much freight out there right now to do this because even a huge carrier like FDX UPS or YRC gets blown out of the water and the service suffers when the gap is too wide.

FDX was first this year and it's the best thing that could happen to YRC too because of how cash strapped they are... Mo Money= More opportunity to have a job for us all tomorrow.

This is the same policy that YRC has. Anything called in that the customer will not have ready until after 5 pm, is "night indicated", which adds a day to the predicted day of delivery.
