Road position at Richfield, what is it like for newbies?

I have an interview coming up for a road position, and was wondering what the runs are like? How is it running road out of the rchfild terminal? Whats it like on the extra board, is it a hog, or wheel board? Is it mostly east coast, or a combination of east, and then west, turns or laydowns?
I appreciate any feedback. It looks like the drivers I see on the road with YRC are very professional, and courteous. I think from what I see it should be a good place to work, but I know I won't be sure till I get in. Thanks for your help, and comments.

Which terminal are you interviewing for? The Cleveland (218) terminal is just north of the Ohio Pike on Brecksville Road. That is an end of line terminal. You can expect to work mostly nights there. And their work is east freight. Akron (211) is 14 miles south of the Ohio Pike on Copley Road. It's a break bulk better runs there. Both are seniority extra boards.

218 is a part time break bulk.

Relay loads trucked from Chicago (309) destined for Maybrook, NY (123), Harrisburg, PA (135), and Norfolk, VA (617) are redispatched from Cleveland to destination. Cleveland doesn't break freight, it's an EOL terminal with a relay.

First, I want to thank you for the info, I've got some more questions.
I've applied for both terminals, but it looks like the 218 terminal is the one with the interview. I will see where the hiring manager wants to place me, I think he is line mgr for both terminals. If he suggests the ako terminal then maybe I will aim for that terminal. I will take your advice.
It looks like the cleveland terminal is the old yellow freight terminal, and ako is the old roadway terminal.

*Are they still running triples across to Chicago, or are they setting it up as a meet?
I was a road driver for CF, so I have a general Idea of how things might work, but I think YRC has reduced laydown costs, establishing many of the old laydowns as meets instead. Is this true?

*I thought that Maybrook was handling the east freight, and Cleveland 218 was handling the relays west. Is this true?

*When does it usually get slow, what time of the year?

*What options are there if a lay off happens? Can you hold a combo. dock city option rather than take a layoff?

When it got slow at CF I didn't get laydoff because I would go out on a team, it was my choice because I had a friend, coworker who was a good team driver, so we could still get the bills paid.

*Does YRC have the team option at either of the two terminals in case of a layoff?
I remember Chicago always had that option, not that teaming is what I want, but at least it is an option.

Thanks for that info, I will look up who you told me about. I will ask the line mgr, at my interview, if he minds placing me on the board at the 211 ako terminal. I applied for a position at both. I think thats great that you have a bid, at least you might have a start time and a plan. Do they still run sleepers out of the 309 terminal? Once again I appreciate you albag for taking the time to give me some insight into what I can expect once I get started. I'm thinking if I made it this far, they are ready to offer me a road position. which of course I will take it. I think YRC will be a good place to work, and union jobs are not easy to find, at least not in cleveland any more. I can't PM yet until I place 5 posts.

Akron is almost always out of drivers. Both have enough work to support more road drivers. Yeah, we still run the pajama wagons in Chicago. Good luck, but if they are calling you back for an interview you most likely will be offered a job.
PS The 309 to 211/218 and beyond lane is the busiest lane in the system right now.

Albag Norfolk,Va is 615 and yeah we load directs to 309 & 211 here. Matter of fact 211 was a bid run for us until the last COO's as we were a loser on that lane. Damn, that was a good paying run , miss it and it was a good service lane 1 day service from here to 211/ 218 for us.

I should have consulted my terminal directory. Isn't 617 Columbus?
Everyone great Saturday here by the dunes. Hope yours is, too.
