Thumbs up Why Not Just "Do it" Myself?

Hi Folks:
I've had my CDL for over a decade now but have only had bus driving experience. Back when I was the top graduate of a Truck Driver School (I know - I know), I had a son in middle school and other obligations that prevented me from striking out on the road OTR.

Well, things have changed. I'm itching to get out on the road. I'm considering going through the trouble of a refresher course with a couple of large trucking firms...but....

Why not just do it myself?

I've got sterling credit. I know I can drive trucks just fine. Why not just buy a truck, practice up a bit to shake the rust off, and get going?

Why not just buy a truck and start driving on my own?

I know, I know...it's expensive and all that. But, I have the resources to see me through tough luck OTR.

I want to be able to call my own shots as far as home time; 2-3 days home for every week or so out.

Honestly, I sincerely want to know if this can be done by someone like me with the wherewithall and moxie to pull it off.

Where would I get my loads? A load board online?

Can anyone describe to me what to expect and where to find loads?

I sincerely appreciate your wisdom!
