jujuman, Thanks for the reply. I thought it was the door hinge too at first but I had an old Roadpal antenna and a new coax cable that I decided to try before doing all that grounding. I immediatly got an SWR of 1.8 and my meter said I was deadkeying at 50 watts and swinging to about 170 watts. It turns out my K40 Trucker antenna somehow went bad (I tried it on my pickup) and the coax that I was using was also no good. Both of those are less than 6 months old. I don't believe the Roadpal will be sufficent for the radio though. So I'll get a new antenna.
Thanks for your help. BTW, an SWR of 1.8 should be good enough right?
