I may be slow to move to the new technology, but a good atlas and a notepad might be a good way to start. The shortest route isn't always the best. Weather, construction, time of day all effect the route I take. I keep notes on how many miles it is each way.

Another thing that scares me about the GPS is that some of them have a memory about when and where you have been. This little box could be the star witness against you if you have a bad day and end up in court somewhere.
