I recently was recalled and very excited to return. My first time back through the door after being laid off since last September and a senior man approaches me and asked to me to sign his petition. I look at it and it is to allow a vote for elimination of the wheel board. I told him that I didn't even know we ran any wheel boards. It seems that the 20 some drivers that run off of the turn bid do so using a wheel board. The man in front of me told me that this was unfair and that one day I would have seniority and want protection.

I did not sign his petition. I have felt the pain of being starved out as an extra board driver. It is cold comfort to be told, "Don't worry, one day you can do the same thing to the low men below you."

The way I got it figured, the turn board definitely calls for a wheel board and now there's a movement to starve out the guys that are at the bottom of the turn bid.

youngtaco I hope you get called back soon.

Thanks CDL holder. Things have changed since that last post. A brother who was laid off with more seniority is now available for work so that basicly means I'm not going to be called at all anymore. 10 months of my income cut in half has forced me to finally look for something else. I take my road test for a non-union carrier tomorrw. Best wishes to all.

I'm not a Teamster, but I fully support them. When I look at how globalization is screwing every worker in this country, it makes me wish that the "Mob run unions" myth was true. Some of those folks in Washington could use some "strong arming" and some, dare I say, need to be "bumped off".

Are you going to stay on layoff status so that you have call back rights for the next 5 years? You never know what can happen. You can work for the non-union without resigning from ABF.
