Default heay abf, get competitive

so many of us are on layoff and not working at all so why doesnt abf get alittle more competitive? i have been on layoff since oct. of last year. stop being a niche freight company and start taking a proactive responce to this crappy market and be more competitive. i feel as though this company has turned its back on a lot of us when it comes to that small town feeling i had when i got hired. i know that buisness is buisness but give me a break. the measters i work with are getting 55+hours a week. some actually run out of hrs by thursday. this has happened consistantly since my layoff. i say abf and their bs practice of only calling layed off guys when they have some hole to fill once a month and boooo to all the measters i used to work with that are not even trying to stop the practice that managment has set up to keep all of us layed off guys home . maybe the measters need to be named publically on this forum to make them feel the shame that they sould feel. i have been a union member for 24+ years and i am saddened at the fact that i am affiliated with this group of union suck ups

He has been a teamster for 24 years, but how many years do you have on the terminal seniority list?

Sure ABF could call everybody back and guess how long the company would last? If the company is violating the call back clause in the agreement, get a hold of your Business Agent.

This company is 500% more diverse now than when I joined here 9 years ago, and the most creative big trucking company I have ever seen. This company plays the contract game, and they are good at it.

I am sad that there are guys still on layoff, but the company has that right under the contract, and we have a formula to bring back laid off guys just the same. Contact your BA if you feel that you're being violated.

If your upset with your personal affiliations, you are in control of your own destiny. Make the necessary changes.

One thing you need to realize is that if by competitive you mean haul cheap freight ABF doesnt play that game. All cutting rates does is turn into a who has the deepest pockets contest. You load the wagons to the doors and run like hell till they lock the gate.(Ever hear of Preston or CF?) ABF plays the waiting game. They tighten down everything they can and try to ride it out. After all your expenses are tightened down there are only two ways to make money , Get more business(not a good idea if its not profitable)or increase productivity(less people doing the same amount of work)Eventually some one will go broke an the decrease in L.T.L. truck capacity will help bring up rates and more work for those left

ABF will not haul freight for cheap. They will wait it out. On the YRC board they have a post where one of their sales reps said that if this pension cut goes thru they can under cut every carrier out there. This will destroy all of our plans for retirement. We can not let YRC take all of us down.
