Ran into one of the Pittsboro Air Liquide drivers a few weeks ago. He's been there for 6 years, told me that AL was putting drivercams in all the trucks. -Driver Monitoring cameras such as are in police cars (I thought those were for filming criminals?) This is to make sure you do your pre-trip, don't smoke while driving, use CB, or EAT while driving.........and you'd better not get in the truck to "warm-up" when it's -15° outside and you're unloading.

Its the large multi-national corporations that are pushing controls like this and making life like living on a "Prison Planet". -Freedom? Ha! We don't need no stinkin' freedom.

Welcome to Orwell's 1984 driver.

That driver is wrong. Some depots do use the drive cams. The one I started out at had them. The one I'm at now doesn't have them and says there are no plans to get them. From what I hear they were just trying them out at certain locations and they don't like them.

When we had them they weren't that bad. They aren't constantly recording like I thought they would. They only go off when something jars it... like if you hit a big bump or slam on the brakes. Then it records the previous 8 seconds and 8 more and sends it to the drive cam people to review. If they find any violations they will forward it to your manager.

I've actually heard of one saving one drivers job because it records what goes on in front of you and it got someone pulling in front of the driver and slamming on the brakes causing the driver to rear end him.
