Better not laugh . Saia let University of Ga. students make decisions on how to cut cost. After a brief study of who made the most deliveries, it was a clear cut decision to fire the "night time" drivers because they did not make as many deliveries as the"day time" drivers.

Well if they let truckload haul all of the ltl freight this company is doomed. Truckload doesn't have to keep to there eta times. I don't think that would work very well with due freight!

There's a good reason for that TL can deliver a load at 6am then dispatched on a 2300 LTL sit at the yard all day after sleeping the previous night and be expected to run all night with no rest...basicly 24 hours with no sleep. When they started TL on LTL some years back Central would scream at TL because we had so many late loads then TL management told Central to take their LTL and shove it if they didn't like it. BUT since they save so much money with TL hauling their LTL they put a sock in it...

Just think TL driver sits all day at a svc UNPAID hauls the same LTL freight for 5 cents less a mile and never return empty...

I don't blame TL drivers for struggling to make schedules when they pull LTL, like TT1 said they sit and wait then try to truck all night. That is better than being laid off or sitting for days waiting on a TL load. I would much rather our TL boys pull them than contract carriers. Shuttle is so much more fast paced than a normal TL schedule. I have known a few TL drivers switch to Combo only to realize that they can't run as hard as most Shuttle drivers do. It is nothing for me to drive 5 hrs. straight and switch out and come straight back non-stop or alot longer when I've been on long laydowns. I'm not knocking TL drivers just saying our divisions sometimes don't mix.

That's the problem CM they have never mixed it's just Averitt's way of forcing a round peg in a square hole...I can run 11 hours a day 5 days a week with proper rest but when you start messing with the body's clock it never works that's when Central realized that if they wanted the savings of TL hauling LTL they had to give in and accept the fact TL will not run on the same schedule as a Shuttle driver...

My truck broke down once and they sent a Shuttle team to pick me up to get me home and they were telling me they would catch all H*ll for being just 10 minutes late on one of their loads...

There is a report everyday on how I ran my run, If I dispatch one minute late of my gate I must give a good reason. I get a 100 when I run exactly on my schedule per qualcomm, deducted points for every minute late. We never hear feedback unless we constantly late to our arrival point by 15 minutes or so.
