Default 10 meter radio vs. CB radio

What is the difference between a 10 meter radio and a CB radio. Is it worth spending an extra 100-150 dollars to get the 10 meter?

If so, is the Cobra 200GTL any good?

ive heard of alot of people having trouble with the cobra 200 it all depends on what you want to do with the radio if you just want good reception and a little power i would recomend a ranger i have a 6900 f25 they are pricey but sound great i also just bought a new general lee for a back up it does good but the ranger gets out and recieves alot farther you will also need a decient antena and a good ground thats the only trouble ive had with 10 meters radios they seem to need more grounding then a cobra 29

Well, early production runs of the COBRA 200 GTL were a disaster, they put the radio out into the market with alot of flaws and poor quality control. Later version radios had some improvement in regard to overall quality. The Cobra warranty repair was kept awful busy when these radio first came out.

I have version 3 of the Cobra 200 GTL and actually it's kinda of a radio that I would use barefoot vs. driving an amp, but typically not running some power tends to get ya lost in the key-ups around here. This one has little airtime so I can't tell too much about the durablity..

Default 10-meter

Hello everyone. I am a big uniden fan myself. But I have just purchased a ranger SS-3900eghp or Superstar. My company bought it to put in our dump truck however they could not get it to work properly. So I bought it at a huge reduced price thinking I could use it as a base station. I have a dc power supply and set it at 13.8 v. Which is what the radio calls for on input power. However if I key the mic for more that 5 seconds it blows the 2a radio fuse. So I took it out to my truck and hooked it up where the uniden goes. Same thing 5 seconds and fuse blows. If anyone has a fix or solution to my problem please let me know. I am thinking of taking it to get it converted to cb radio so that I can talk to more people on it. Not sure about the 10 meter part of it. I am aware that I need a license to operate it and am very much willing to get one. Just not sure radio is worth doing all that if not to many people use the 10 meter portion of it. Let me know. Any info is greatly appreciated. thanks.

Try a little bigger fuse like a 5 amp or so, nothing bigger than a 10... a radio like that pulls more amps than a regular stock cobra etc. I would not do much talking on it on ten meter myself especially without a license.
