Cobra 29 Bluetooth Radio - Page 4

Update on the Bluetooth..
Well I have been building them in all different ways. Some with MOSFET's and some with 2SC1969 finals. I have noticed one thing about them.
This radio uses a 10 watt Audio IC that is different from the older Cobras and the Transformer is not as good and I have had some failures on the Audio Transformer. The Audio IC has been ok, but the transformer is the week point in the link. This has only been on the MOSFET conversion and when it has been ran hard. I think you will be ok on the radio if you use some caution on tuning the radio and make sure your antennas are set right. If you up grade to the MOSFET final then don't crank it all the way up inside, this I think is the problem and if you don't turn it all the way up you should be fine. You can still have a loud radio that sounds good and hopefully it will not blow up. One other thing never jump the spike diode on the transformer ckt. that runs to the final, this is a sure way to burn up the transformer.

I like to have one. Tuned, peaked,channeled,echo, astatic 636l. Doable?

Everything is doable but the Channels.
Putting channels in the this 29 requires replacing the PLL and for the most part it is not worth the money. For a good radio for what you want is the Galaxy 919 or 929 but you will loose the Bluetooth feature.

Ok. I have all those features in my Uniden pc78 elite(ooohh elite). I think the BT would be icing on the cake. I'm not gonna buy another radio unless it really adds something. Thanks.

I understand that.. The 78 Elite is a nice radio and now they have a $40.00 off rebate on them but they still don't sell like the Cobra 29 does and I don't know why.
