Default Who run's a 10" shaft wilson trucker?

It seems that with a 10" shaft it tune's lower than with the 5" the only thing is it also shakes around and vibrates more and it is annoying to look out the window and see this. How can I minimize this?I have it mirror mounted with a heavy duty wilson stainless stud. What does everyone else do I see a lot of trucks running the longer shaft wilson's.Is it common I know my truck is tired and old and the idea is to get the coil as high as possible any suggestions.thx.

I know if you change the shaft you have to change the whip. The 10" have a shorter whip than the 5". I run a 5" mounted on back of cab dead center behind the wind jammer with a 18' mini 8 on a galaxy 95T2 (25w dead key and 175-180 swing) with swr ranging between 1:1 to 1:4 depending on the truck

Buy one with an 18" shaft. Then it's too high to notice it. Plus your receive will be better. But Plum's right, if you change out your shaft, you'll have to change out your whip.

I personally run a 6' Wilson Silverload centered behind the cab with the 18' mini8 to a Texastar 350HDV to a Galaxy 33 turned up to 50w with a 2w deadkey. Blue lights and a variable talkback, talking through an Astatic 636L. I don't know why I threw that in there. Oh well...

Your tuning is mainly based on length of whip more so than length of bottom shaft. The reason it probably seems to tune better with a longer shaft is the center load and the whip tip is higher and further away from reflection and obstructions! Remember in the antenna world "Height is Might" If you change your shaft length get a new whip usually about 12.00 bucks. And PLEASE don't bend the whip to tune the antenna that is the ugliest way to do it!
Get a set of bolt cutters and cut it so it looks nice and professional....Cant stand it driving down the highway and look over and see Billy Big rigger with his Bent up white trash 75.00 Wilson 5000 antenna whip!

Probably reflecting off of the trailer and the wind scoop if you have one. Very hard to achieve good SWR back there
