What you want to do is to have the radio set for a low dead key and good swing and then drive it into the amp. The low dead key will not overdrive the amp and it will run cooler.
This holds true for normal talking if you are trying to talk longer distance then you need to run a little more dead key for carrier. I like to run 2 watts of deadkey into an amp like a 350 and let it swing.

I always thought that echo on radios was useless and annoying to the grown ups, until I heard one that was tuned properly. It does sound good when it's done right. The key is: a little bit goes a long ways too much sounds like crap. I don't get those guys who want to sound like they're yelling in a cave.

You know you are exactly right a little goes a long way..
You can 't use you talk-back to set it ether if you do you will have way too much echo on the air.

i always make a point of checking all my equipment is set up properly before moving off in my truck so i rarely get many problems. i think it would be a good idea if as part of the DMV to take a test for competence on the radios and other equipment. It'd make the roads a nicer place to be

i resent that my antenna is pointed forward but i use a trunk mount k 40 on a mirror bracket and it is only slightly pointed forward so that when im driving it is pointing straight up
