Question 10 meter am/fm Texas Ranger Question (HELP)

    Hello,

I used to talk on am cb radio 40 channels with ssb. I was doing a search for new Texas Ranger radio's and I was running into 10 meter am/fm /ssb radios. I see that they come right out of the box with high power depending on what you want to spend. What does the am/fm mean? Is that the same Frequency as regular cb radio? Also is 10 & 12 meter legal to have for mobile use with all this power? Thanks for helping me out with this, any information will be greatly apreciated.

am fm are the same frequecies(channels for cb). They simply differnent modes of transmission. These are not technically CB radios. They are marketed as amature equipment but are easily modified to include 11 meters. This makes them unable to be ceritfied by the FCC and are actually not leagal for use without a call sign. All this being said, Ranger makes a pretty good "import" radio at least the RCI ones. Oh yeah, no matter what, the max "legal" power oin CB (11 meters) is 4 watts am and 12 watts ssb. I know tons of guys with these type of radios. They seem to be the thing to have now a days.

So what you are saying is that am/fm are the same as regulare cb channels? So if I were to get a 10 or an 11 meter radio I would need a call sign? I dont understand the 10-11 meter band? Is cb 11 meters? Hope you guys can help me out on this, I would love to put one in a vehicle with a ton of extra power! thanks

Yes arctic power , 11 meter is the CB band. Alot of guys run "export" radios ( 10 meter radios, that have been converted to "work" on 11 meter too) . Most drivers have much more radio than they'll ever use . Most of the guys I know that have exports have the extra frequencies but, they never use anything but channel 19. If you have time , call CBR ( Cb repairman , one of our sponsors ) and he can answer any questions you might have . He has MANY radios on sale & he'll ask & answer any concerns you might have AND he can fix you up with a radio that will get lots of c'mon backs ! When they hear that CBR radio you'll be like EF HUTTON ! Call him & I guarantee he won't "OVER SELL " you a radio that is MORE than you need !

I have a COBRA 29 CBR did for me & it does a great job . He did some receive mods on it that help me hear signals instead of static !

That Ranger 3900 he told you about in an earlier post is a very FINE radio !

Default to restate what what was said..

you can get them, yes they are export radios that are 10 meter that can be modified to 11 meter. But driver I can't Put this in big and bold enough letters DON'T DO IT! i DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS THEY ARE NOT LEGAL!! YOU HAVE TO BE LICENSED TO OPERATE A TRANSCEIVER WITH 10 METER CAPABILITY. These mods are not legal!!
