I would suggest Magnum, Galaxy or Connex and in that order. I have used the Cobra radios and always end up upgrading to the bigger radios. Cobras and Unidens are what you buy when you can't afford anything else. You will always wish you had of bought one of the exports.

I have had my Galaxy 66 for a few years and wouldnt own anything else. I got it off ebay for 150.00. It cost me 20.00 to have it converted, peaked and tuned. Has worked great since.

I would say it depends on how much you intend on using it and where you intend on using it. If you use it 24/7 then spend some money on a better grade of radio if your not a cheap one will do. If you find yourself in area without alot of traffic on the radio I would purchase a 10 meter style radio with maybe a box to help it. I feel a stock style radio is good for running the cities or Interstates but if you get in the mountains or off the beaten path where there not much of anything then a 10 meter style radio is what you want.
