Your SWR should be as close to 1 as possible. Using your radio over 2 regularly builds up heat resistance and can burn out your radio. At 3 you will dramatically shorten its life. The higher the number the poorer the signal input/output is also.

Try an external meter to confirm this. Your SWR should not change from low to high or from radio to radio. This would be on the same truck with the same coax and antenna set up.
I never had any luck with builtin meters, expecially after mods.
I run a Galaxy with mods Meter isn't even close

What type of antenna are you running and where do you have your antenna ?
Is your antenna on a vise grip mount ? If so, you might try moving it to a different location , you may be getting reflection off something on the tractor or trailer .
What kind of SWR meter are you using and do you know that it's pretty accurate ?
