First, replace the factory coax. Most "stock" coax is junk...Next go to a cb shop and have them set your SWR's for you. That means tune the antenna to the vehicle its on. They usually do it for a few bucks..5$- 10$ at the most. Sometimes if you buy coax or antennas from the cb shop they discount your price on setting the swr's for you. As long as that cobra 25 your using hasn't been hacked, you should be in alot better shape after tuning the antenna and the new coax. If it's the same then it's prolly the radio..

make sure that where the antenna mounts that all the pieces are on there right, the plastic washer has to be on the top of the mount.

I have seen this problem before & it is usually when the plastic washer is installed underneath the mounting bracket.

you can change the coax but you have to run it through the door windows you cant run it like the factory wireing and they will let you get your swr checked as long as you don't let the cb shop try to ad a ground wire the shop usually wants to do that for you there picky about where it goes also what year and style of truck are you running i may have some suggestions for a ground if you slip seat but it don't work on the cascadia
