Default Range

How can I increase the reception range on my CB. I have a Cobra 25 LTD classic. People seem to hear me just fine, but it seems like if the driver is about a quarter mile away or more I can hear a small voice covered by static, any farther than that nothing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

first thing I'd start with is the antena a good antena makes a big differance on receiving an transmitting. That may not be the problem but checking your antenna and coax is a good place to start

Thanks for the reply. I have brand new antennae and the coax I'm using is the factory installed wiring. I have a buddy that drove the same truck for a while and still drives one that is exactly the same, using the same setup as me and can hear for miles.
I ran with a few other drivers today and got the range on both ends up some, but it is still not as good as the range that most of them were getting.
Longer antennae maybe???

could be a problem of the antenna not being grounded good enough on my pickup I had to run a ground wire from the antenna mount to the frame and then I was able to recieve better

Have you checked your SWR? Antennas that are not tuned properly will dissapoint.

What is SWR and how do I check it. I'm kind of new to the CB thing. I only got it because I have been doing a lot of extra line haul runs on the weekend.

Thanks.
