Default big cb radio question

i have a virage cb radio, with am, fm abc channels upper and lowers that i got off of a distressed trucker. this radio talks big, and is nice and clear. it gets out far without a linear.

my question is the fm channels and the a.b.c upper and lowers. whenever i switch to the fm band i never pick up anything there. are those ham stations? and why wont it pick up.? i kind of guess that if another radio pulled up with the fm band i could maybe talk to him. but is this extra stuff just useless on a cb

FM does not move to another channel, it just changes the type of modulation used. CB in the USA is AM, so leave it on AM. The a/b/c, etc are different groups of 40 channels, either above or below the normal 40

THE Bible of CB Radio is:

Occasionally, Borders has one. In mint condition, expect to pay a half a yard. It's a pulp paperback.

I have used FM when travelling with someone else that has it. Makes for good privacy. Nobody else can hear you unless they have FM.

People can still hear you, it will just be a bit garbled. These are export radios that are marketed as ham radios for the 10 meter band. Its mostly a sham and technically illegal to use it on CB. The FCC seems to have washed their hands of this for the most part. You should consider getting your ham license and use it in the 10 meter band..

Reading the thread, sounds like an old Hallicrafters Kit CB from Radio Shack, early 60's.

Does it have radio tubes?
