Thanks for your reply.
radio shack sells plugs that you run your wires into then they plug straight into your dash terminals makes slipseating a little easyier i think there called bannana plugs you can get a set for about 5 bucks

Hey easttnhillbilly; Good post, thanks. I went to Rad Shack and got those Banana Plugs yesterday. They work good. Now I just have to figure out why my SWR is so high all of a sudden, I think the door got jacked on my truck and caused it to loose ground...

Sorry didn't read this earlier... Yea full power, no probs. The ground problem that your talking about is probably a because your door hinge doesn't make a good ground contact. Sterling trucks doors arent grounded for sh*t, you'll have to ground your bracket with a jumper through the wing window to a bolt inside the cab thats grounded. We had brackets on the back of the cabs directly behind the drivers seat that were actually grounded good and worked out well for us.

jujuman, Thanks for the reply. I thought it was the door hinge too at first but I had an old Roadpal antenna and a new coax cable that I decided to try before doing all that grounding. I immediatly got an SWR of 1.8 and my meter said I was deadkeying at 50 watts and swinging to about 170 watts. It turns out my K40 Trucker antenna somehow went bad (I tried it on my pickup) and the coax that I was using was also no good. Both of those are less than 6 months old. I don't believe the Roadpal will be sufficent for the radio though. So I'll get a new antenna.
Thanks for your help. BTW, an SWR of 1.8 should be good enough right?

Hooya ,

I would try to get the SWR down more myself. I think the SWR for that radio would need to be 1.3 or less. For a normal power CB anything under 1.5 is OK but, those large units need it lower. GOOD LUCK !

Yeah, I'm gonna buy a new antenna and try again. Just have to decide which antenna to get.
