Default Do it the right way.You will enjoy it!!

Become a licensed ham and then join a local repeater club. Get a Yeasu ,Icom or Kenwood VHF/UHF radio with a Larson 1/2 wave dual band antenna (32'' tall 1/2 wave on 2 meters and 1/4 wave over 1/2 wave length on 70 centermeters) Then you can talk around your local area using 5 watts of power and not have to subject yourself to all of the near field radiation ,that is extreemly harmful especially with the antenna on the door radiating next to your head.

Try a wilson 2000 with a long enough shaft to get the coil above your cab. Usually a 10 in shaft will do. That and decent coax shold get you in the right direction. 1.3 or less on the swr. The radiation isn't that bad either... I only started to have a shoulder twitch just ever so slightly after keying my radio and singing 99 bottles of beer for 2 hours. j/k lol

Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. Thanks, BTW if it's just the shoulder that's twitching you probably still have a few good years left. Maybr you should cut it down to 33 bottles of beer on the wall....LOL

if you use the pie formula if
(P) power= 200 watts
and assuming your voltage
(E)voltage= 12 volts
then your current
(I)amps=16.66667
or
watts divided by volts = amps

Just a final note to let you all know my problems are solved!! I have a SWR of 1.2 and no probs powering the Connex 4600 Turbo off of the dash terminals.

Thanks jujuman for your post about grounding the antenna behind the cab. That got me thinking...I mounted it to the top of the cab using the same bolts that hold the faring down and got a great ground directly to the roof.

Thanks Estnhillbilly for your post about the banana plugs they work great.
