So with this type , you don't strip the wire ??

These look REALLY different from the cheap crap I bought ......stoopid me ! It sounds like you would strip the insulation off with the GOLD ones ??

Lyv Wire,
Not much fabrication at all. I just used a flat bar (from the hardware store) about 6 to 8 inches long. Attached one end to the top back of the cab, where the fairing mounts to it, and drilled a hole large enough to accept the antenna mount in the other end that hangs over the back of the cab. The antenna is between the back of the cab and the front of the trailer.
I'll take some pics of it and as soon as I figure out to post a pic to this site I will.
As for the Banana Plugs, I haven't had any probs with them at all. Your not supposed to solder the wire. Just strip about a quarter inch of insulation off the end and stick it through the top plug then fan the wires back and screw the plugs together. I put electrical tape around the plugs so nothing on the dash would touch them and short them out. The plugs do come in different wire sizes so you need to make sure you get the ones that are for the guage of wire you have.

OK Lyv Wire, Here's the scoop. I'm just an idiot!.... It turns out that my original install on my first radio had to be giving me false low readings on my SWR meter. I think I had just an intermittent ground. When I re-installed it all this time I did it completely different. I routed the coax differently and mounted the antenna in a totally different spot. This time I have a great ground on the antenna and didn’t really realize it. With the K40 I had a SWR of about 3.5 across all the channels. Seeing how I had used it before somewhat succesfully I just assumed it was already tuned and thought it was bad. It ended up that I had to cut about three and a half inches off of the whip and now have a SWR of 1.2 and sometimes 1.3 The K-40 is working great.
Yeah, the 4600 is a monster. I really like it. I wont ever go back to a 4 watt radio!
I'm gonna take some pics and try to figure out how to post them here so if anyone already knows how you could save me some time by helping me out with that

OK, I took some pics. I just pasted the link for photobucket here because I tried to do like thebeerboy said and it just turned out like a bunch of jibberish. I couldn't figure it out. If you still can't see the pics let me know and I'll try again. If you can see the pics let me know what you think. I have a couple pics of the Banana plugs there also. Hope this helps someone!
