ONE MORE SWR Question
I recently bought a Cobra 29 Bluetooth and I love the radio, especially the bluetooth feature. My hearing ain't what it used to be and being able to hear the party I'm talking to through the speaker is great.
But back to the swr question. My radio has had the dead key lowering and swing mod done so it does swing quite a bit while modulating.
I have always set my swr when the radio was dead keyed and forgot about it. I spent a good hour getting my swr down to 1.2 with a Wilson truckers 2000 and was very pleased with it. I accidently left the switch on the radio on swr (I set it with a digital swr meter and checked it with the one on the radio and they were almost identical) and when I talked the needle swings upward a lot when modulating.
Barefoot it goes from 1.2 to about 2.5 and when I switch on my Midnight Special 250 it goes up to 3.5, enough to make my antenna warning light blink on and off. The swr is still at 1.2 at dead key with or without the amp being on. It just moves with the modulation up into the range I don't like.
Is this normal?? I don't think I have ever noticed another radio doing this but I don't think I have ever checked the swr reading at anything but dead key. I was taught that this is the proper way to check it.
I am a dummy and could use some help. THANKS in advance.
