Some Run 60mph, Some 60+mph. Anyone Know Why?
About half the trucks at my terminal run 60mph and the other half run 65. I do not know why this difference exists. Is is like this at other terminals? Just curious. I've had this discussion with many people but just can't get a straight, reliable answer concerning company policy as it has to do with truck speeds. Sixty miles per hour is the company wide policy as I've understood it to be.
We have a neighboring terminal running their trucks at 70mph, one to the north running 65, and another one running 60. Why the differences I wonder? Special circumstances? Possibly. Some drivers exceed 660 miles each day making it impossible to do legally in 11 hours of driving. I can understand turning a truck up in that situation. However, when entire terminals are getting their trucks turned up beyond the corporate preset governed speed, I have to start asking questions. So here I am.
How fast do the trucks at your terminal run? I'm just trying to get a general idea of what things are like across the country. Maybe if I can gather enough info I can get my truck turned up :) Fat chance though but a guy can dream right?
A faster truck is basically like getting a raise and more. That "more" being more time at home to spend doing what you want (i.e. sleeping, spending time with the family, etc). Dare to dream. For me 5mph more speed would shorten my days by over an hour. That would be sweet. Just don't have the clout to pull strings yet.
Thanks for any information you all give and I also just wanted to say hello. I'm new here but I'll be around.
Btw, yea you're probably wondering what terminal I currently drive out of. Honestly, I'm reluctant to say. I prefer a certain degree of anonymity on these boards. Even knowing someones home terminal can be enough to give away their true identity. I've been to terminals before who employed only two drivers. Wouldn't be hard to deduce in that situation. I'm probably being paranoid but it's served my well in the past.
