My gravy is gone..
Since the bids of 2006 I held the best P&D bid at Con-way. The volume customer I serviced has hit hard times and there is no longer a need for a late truck with an mt 53'. This customer primarily serviced the auto industry so I need say no more.
The worst part is now having to deal with my co-workers on a daily basis. Don't get me wrong, some are great, but most are not. I have found their presence alone slows down the out-bound. I have new guys b*****n to me they started at 6 PM and can't run a 250 mile run. I started at 5 PM and ran XCW, a 520-530 mile run. I earned the respect of GOOD senior drivers by doing so. I also worked my a** off when I got there. Forget the whine-haul room..
The best people we have at my barn are 30-45 years old with 10-12 years in. The way I see them get jerked around is BS. Should I stay around for that?? I don't think so.. I will never make a lateral move so I'll get out of this all-together.
Keep you all posted...
Just so you know my "gravy train" bid.
1 PM start. My truck hooked to my old Truckload 53' with great ABS. Nothing to deliver, work the dock for one hour to "tidy up". At 2 PM I would leave on a 135 mile trip to my account. Stop at my favorite local sandwich shop for lunch, during winter, put on baby iron to get up the hill empty, and pick up 20-35k. My normal arrival time was 4:30-5 PM. My normal departure time was 6-7 PM with 135 miles back to the barn. I serviced the hell out of that place. I bought them pizza on my tab to load me first. Ahhh. The things they did for me.. It's all over now..
