I am stunned that anyone actually thinks that a cop is chasing someone for a seatbelt violation. That may be what initiated the stop, but people don't flee for a minor thing like that. The piece of crap was obviously involved in a much more serious crime. Do you have any clue how many criminals are caught and how many crimes are solved or prevented by a cop doing his job and relying on his instincts to initiate a stop for a minor traffic violation? There is no way in hell these cops should be dragged through the mud on this.
Excerpt from story: "Jenkins, meanwhile, was wanted on two felony warrants issued in September 2006 for cocaine possession and battery on a police officer. Six months later, a misdemeanor warrant was issued against Jenkins for resisting police." Yeh, just some poor guy that forgot his seatbelt, huh?
This is an example of why there should be very long minimum sentences for people that flee. It's just a matter of time before they crash out and cause injury or death to some innocent citizen.

Yes we should keep on this topic so everyone of you Conway workers can vent about the poor decision the original law enforcement officers made to hammer down on a seatbelt violator, instead of using all of the technology available to them to find this guy.
If this had been a simple everyday wreck that had just occurred, the circumstances would have been the same. Traffic was slowed or stopped, it doesn't matter what for!
Do you think it's different because they were towing a car damaged in a chase as opposed to one damaged in a wreck? Why keep trying to pin this on the cops? Technology hadn't caught up with this piece of filth in almost three years, you think that all of the sudden he's going to answer his door and say "Oh, hi officer. Would you like to take me into custody now?"

I say Lord have mercy on the cops who took it upon themselves to start a chase because someone was not obeying the seatbelt law.
You'll all have to read this news report and form your own opinions.
Police chase preceded crash that killed family :: Local News :: Post-Tribune
I read that article and that was my first thought....all this because a county cop wanted a bullseat belt ticket..and when it entered the interstate the state police werent notified...so in the states word the closure of that interstate was not properly done

The chase was over and done with. It had NOTHING to do with the wreck. The reason traffic was stopped didn't matter to this family, the truck not stopping did.
