At the current time all service center managers are on a cost cutting crusade and for good reason=revenue is down accross the whole industry. As for the yard lighhts at IND, was thru there 2 weeks ago at 2am,very lit up,nice, yes,,a luxury yes, but not needed. I mean come on, it was lit up like a football stadium. As for hiring part-timers that's a smart move, sure don't need to add to the full-time benefit pool when less freight is moving thru the system. Sliding tandems and chock the wheels is a long standing company policy. That said, if a forklift enters a trailer and the trailer moves forward when the brakes are applied to the lift,it's a clear sign that the driver was going way to fast into the trailer, but that's a seperate matter. Yes many new rules are in the works for mid-2010, most are Federal DOT regulations that DFL has no choice on. Nobody likes change(me included) but the industry is changing and DFL has change along with it. There are many LTL company's in the ash-heap of history that were too slow to change. One point that I will back you on is the "SLOW DOWN, WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG" delema. Transportation asks what took you so long to get somewhere, when the whole time you drove pedal to metal all the way! Computor say's you have been here 15 min. ago. I say" I didn't see that computor hooked to that trailer pulling it down the highway". Or," I can only do just so much with what you give me to work with". As our tractors are slowed down even more,(mine tops out at 65) the trans. dept has to get together with safety and maint. and iron this problem out. This is still a great place to work and the pending expansion coming in the next few years is going to be exciting to participate in.
