Deregulation/Regulation Pro's and Con's Please

When the trucking industry was deregulated, I was too young to understand the impact it had. I would like very much if a few of you "salty dogs" would offer your opinions as to how deregulation affected the industry in the past and how re-regulation would affect it today. Thank You.

I heard that there were meetings in S. Cal with Pat R. on Tuesday. Anyone hear of anything? Everyone invited. Don't know if there are more meetings planned (if there were any in the first place), or if they are going to cover all areas.

Are there more problems in the S. Cal area than elsewhere?

I hear Standard Forwarding filed bankruptcy and are reorganizing. They are bragging about how they are going to break the union. Can they do that?

Chrysler spokeswoman Shawn Morgan says the automaker has shifted about 28% of its carhaul business. Chrysler has been spending $111 million annually to haul cars, but says that cost will eventually diminish by $31 million annually as a result of its vendor shift on select routes.

:USA:With all the union companys losing money in this economy ,mostly YRC.The non-union carriers are taking all the benefit's away sick days ,holiday pay, and 401's matches . What does all this mean for the future of the LTL pay ,and benefit's we all enjoyed ? I beleave all the fear of union oganizing in this companies is gone .

YRC said it likely will file for bankruptcy if offering fails ????

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this question so if not please relocate to the correct forum. I have been out to South Calf here lately and have seen a LOT of pro-union signs and people holding up signs in front of terminals. Fed-ex Frt is going or is in the process of being forced to respect with honor their employees? While the top senority drivers in any company almost always think "they" are being treated great the great majority of workers fall into the 3-10 year time frame. Is this just a "west" coast thing or is it going thru the whole freight system? Just wondering.
