Well here we go again, old man winter is coming. The Con-Way winter driving scare tactics are posted. Since there are alot of new members I am going to repost the winter driving rule in the FMCSA. This is in the binder that the company has. It is not in the little green book http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regul...90163348002327Part 392.14: Driving of commercial motor vehicles - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration It don't matter if there is passangers or not.

I am a new hire here at Conway. I've been out a few times in the city to deliver and pickup freight and I have been approached by several people at different stops making the same comment that they have never seen a white Conway city driver before.

One place I stopped at, I was in the back of the trailer to get my pallet jacks to make a pickup (from the ground) and the guys looks at me and hollers inside where he works and says "Hey Frank, look at this!" At first I thought I had ran over something and I was dragging it from behind. "Is there something different that you see?" He goes, "Yeah he's white!"

I'm not racist or prejudice. I think everyone should have a shot at it. Is it like this anywhere else or vise versa or is it just me?

Do you drive around on the forklift with your foot hanging off the side?
I thought I'd ask since I just heard about a guy who will probably have to have his foot amputated because he had it hanging off and got crushed between the lift and another object much stronger than human flesh and bone.
I've seen this for years and am constantly amazed at how dumb seemingly intelligent people can be.
Is there a comfort factor to this ? Do you think you look cool? Does it make it easier to get your rotund frame on and off the lift?
Help me understand your reasoning if you are one of those who do this.
If you are one of those guys, talk to someone at AY who saw this happen and hopefully you will be smacked across the face with the reality of how dangerous this is.

Hi everyone, :wavey:

Hi everyone, :wavey:

first, please let me state that I've only been at Con-way for a month now, and so far I have to say that I really like it here. My co-workers have all been extremely helpful, and very friendly. I have to say the same for all my managers and supervisors as well.

I understand the whole flex schedule thing, and I have no problem with "paying my dues". At times, I've gotten a little over one hour notice as to when I have to be there, and I'm not complaining about that either. I do what they ask, and actually enjoy it, if you can believe that.

I totally get it that Con-way basically "owns" me (at their beckoned call during the week), and that I can not make any plans or appointments during the week. I accept it as being part of my job, and paying my dues.
I can even accept the fact that working on Friday night linehaul with the 2 hour delay, is technically working on Saturday.

But, here's where I have a problem.........

When I was interviewed, I specifically asked if this job requires us to work weekends. I was told "No, we are a 5 day a week operation, and we do not require you to work weekends".

This Friday, I started at 10:30 (am) on P&D, and then worked on the outbound dock from 7:30 (pm) until it was finished. I was sweeping up at 5 minutes to 11:00 (pm), when I was called over the intercom. The FOS then informs me, that I HAVE TO work linehaul tomorrow (Sat.), and that if I do not hear from him by 9 am, then I will have the day off.

I explain to him that I had already made plans, and also explained what I was told before I was hired. His answer was "well then, you have been mis-informed".

What is this crap??? shit shit shit
Like I said earlier, I have no problem at all paying my dues. I am new here and I know it. I'm the bottom of the barrel and accept it. I do not wish to sound like a whiner, but I feel this is unfair and absolutely crossing the line! When am I supposed to have any sort of a life at all???
Do they now "own" me on the weekends too? :nutkick:

Due to the recent incentive of $5 off a week, Conway is asking for a physical and in exchange they will give you $5 a week off.

Well, just might be a chance that they can already get your info. Usually you sign a waiver at the doctor's off before you are treated and this lets your employer have access to your health records. It's called HIPAA:

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1996. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) website, Title I of HIPAA protects health insurance coverage for workers and their families when they change or lose their jobs. Title II of HIPAA, known as the Administrative Simplification (AS) provisions, requires the establishment of national standards for electronic health care transactions and national identifiers for providers, health insurance plans, and employers. This is intended to help people keep their information private, though in practice it is normal for providers and health insurance plans to require the waiver of HIPAA rights as a condition of service.

The Administration Simplification provisions also address the security and privacy of health data. The standards are meant to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the nation's health care system by encouraging the widespread use of electronic data interchange in the U.S. health care system

A nurse that I know stated that employers can get your health records.
