The reason that Fedex can not have Watkins trailers is because the did not buy the Watkins name.
By agreement in the sale of Watkins They had to Rebrand in 2yrs and Watkins could not compete in LTL for 5 yrs.
UPS Bought all of Overnite and due tho the downturn have pushed back their schedule on rebranding. They have gotten rid of alot of junk and have purchased 1600 new trailer. Im guessing tractors are next. They can use ONITE and Motor Cargo Trailers as long as they wish.
Just a little bit of fact here.

By the way Watkins is now a truckload company pulling a lot of LTL Freight out of their old costomers and then giving to local cartage for delivery.
Your trailers will probably be out of Romeoville before long and Flying W will take back many customers Fedex bought . Also I see them pulling Fedex National LTL Also.. Whats that all about? Charlotte Cin etc.
Heard West Coast too..

Good luck to all!!

Hello.

I have been reading through all these different reply's.

My opinion. I like both company's myself.

Being a yrcw laidoff driver. Coming from that world i am used to the union way of things. So 2 keep in line i was trying to get hired on at upsf.

But since they aren't hiring in columbus. And fedex is and they might hire me on. I will jump on board here.

And based on there total hire in package. It seems to be really close to what i had before. So point is if i have to go non-union so be it.

Question fedex freight and National. For fulltime city p@d driver. Starts out at 18.46 and tops out at 22.05 in 3 years.

I assume that each year during this time period. Everyone is getting a once a year raise. So that would be 3 raises over 3 years. One would be making more then.

What does fedex give as a average yearly wage increase.

Personally i have worked at union and non-union places. There is good and bad at both places. Being laid-off and starving for work, i say hire me on i don't care either way.

But it would be nice that fedex does kinda of work with the drivers. And honor the senority system.

Plus fedex national in there city. Doesn't have that on-call crap that i am used 2. At least that's what i was told.

So when i comes down 2 it. A good non-union company wants me great. A good union company wants me great. I try to do a good job and just get along.

Peace Brothers....

I'm a road driver so I can't help.
But I'm sure that many city drivers in Columbus from Freight or National LTL
will be able to explain some of your questions.
