| | Will The Amnesty For Illegals Affect Us?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was thinking that if the president and congress pass a bill that grants
the illegal aliens (mostly mexicans) legal permission to stay and work and
therefore get drivers licenses, won't that cause a glut of drivers and
therefore cause mileage rates for drivers to decrease? I came from the
construction industry and wages have been crushed downward since so
many illegals have been hired by the builders and contractors. The illegals
dominate the sheetrockers/plasters, landscapers, carpenters, masons,
roofers, machinery operators and have made inroads on the electricians
and plumbers. If the wages for drivers get any lower, how can we all pay
our mortgages, utilities and food? I don,t know about you but 35 to 40K
in california does not pay the bills. It is great for the mid west states but
the drivers from those states will have less too. Any reasonable suggestions appreciated.

A like wise concern that I have is that with Washington Politicians seemingly globalization leaning toward a North American Union will Mexican trucks (shudder) start cruising our highways.
While watching Washington Journal this morning I heard a telephone call complaining of 11 cent a mile Mexicans. Is this chicken little or not?
PS. Sorry I like these silly little Smilie pictures - kind of makes me wish I could make them myself!

| | Bad over all !!!
The north south corridor and amnesty both would ruin trucking. A Mexican CDL costs about $50, You Pick The Name !!! Thats right guys, If Juan comes up here in a big rig, motorvating for 12 cents a mile, a fortune for him, on Tuesday he kills a family of four on vacation. All he needs to do is go back to Mexico, fork over $50 and get a new CDL under a different name. Conceivably, he could be back to trucking across the US by Monday morning under a new name. If Juan is already in the US and gets amnesty, he, his wife, his US born baby and his cousin Jesus, along with Jesus's girlfriend, would be more than happy to move into a brand new sleeper truck and roll around the US splitting 35 cents a mile. This would allow them to send home a hundred dollars a week to each of their families and still live the Mexican version of the American dream. Since they are non collectable, medical care is free also !!! I am not against Legal Immigration, I have relatives living in Mexico, I enjoy travelling the Mexican continent. I do not however, advocate the selling out of the United States. My ancestors built, served for and died for our country. My constitution is not a Living Constitution, to be adapted to the whim of every person sneaking into the country, or foreign national trying to find a way to profit from it. It is bad enough the people here legally are trying to twist and manipuate it at the expense of the general populace. |
