Question Please how could they manage?

I'm in the process of obtaining a CDL-A. I've no qualms about my potential about handling any vehicle that's ever been made. I lived on motorcycles for over twenty years and have owned some that would top end (and I used it at in excess of 135 mph). I'm cognizant that what I'm about to question will probably annoy some members of this board.

It all stems from a traffic situation on I 96 just east of Howell Michigan. I was driving a Dodge Pickup with a 5.9 liter engine. The weather suddenly took a turn for the worse and this poorly designed highway iced into a sheet of glass.

It was not possible for me to travel in excess of thirty-five mph without a spin out. Shit next thing I knew there were a half-dozen tractor trailers tailgating me and blowing horns.

I want to know how these jerks were staying on the road much less in one lane.

On behalf of the true Professionals that still remain on the highway I would like to apoligize. The very best advice I ever received when I was trained to drive a big truck was NEVER let anyone drive your truck. You and only YOU are the captain of that ship and especially when the weather takes a turn for the worse only drive what you feel comfortable with. By the way good luck on your driving career, it can be a very rewarding job and take from this instance to always remain a Professional. Have you found a job yet?

Thanks, I'm just preparing now to enter CDL training (accepted in school and getting TIP prior to cramming in first two class weeks) I've always liked to drive and until our "dear " politicians destroyed the job market, building high performance heads and engines were my bread and butter.

Beginner I have been driving rigs for 30 + years and retired last year from driving.Thos guys were probably driving normally for tem. They may have seemed to you to be tailgating you but in all reali=ty they were probably driving normally for what they thought the conditions permitted. As time gos by and you drive big rigs you will come to understand what I am telling you. I have driven some of the toughest areas in the country to drive in during storms and I can tell ya when ya got that rig running smooth you do what ya have to do to keep it going safely. This comes from experience. Now on the other hand if these fellas were tailgating then I also apoloige for them because that is not the norm from a professional.

Those with a license to drive be it a 4 wheeler or a big truck, there are bad ones and good ones.

I was driving our work van the other day and some yutz thought it was real funny to run up my tail pipe and then pass by fast on a icey, blowing snow covered road.

I waited till he got ahead of me and stuck the bubble light on the dash and turned it on, he pulled over and I waved as I went by.

I work with the state police but in the crime lab. I sure hope he realized how lucky he was and cooled his jets. Next time he might mess with the real thing and get a ticket.
