Spotting a trailer

What is spotting a trailer? I've had my CDL for about 4 months and worked for a couple of companies and still don't know what it is. Then again, this is the first time that I've asked.

Usually it means to back a trailer to a loading dock.For loading unloading purposes.

In this case, I was told to bring a pair of gloves. So, do you think that it could be just hooking a trailer up to the tractor or stringing a set of doubles?

HeadRush it would be both more than likely. If you are talking about the school that you are going to attend. A pair of coveralls would probably come in handy too.

And usually dropping it and leaving it there, then picking it up later, when it is read to be moved again.

The reason why I asked what spotting a trailer was is because I got called by Roadway Express to come in for a road test today. All I had to do was a pre-trip, back a trailer into a parking space, and go around a course. I think I did fairly well considering that I didn't make the guy riding with me cuss, cover his eyes, scream, or pray.
