Question Something I don't understand and

When I obtain my CDL-A from school (hope my security clearance isn't screwed up, don't know why it should be). Will my first jobs offerings be pretty much OTR?

I have a real belief I want to drive X endorsement vehicles. Will I need years of experience before being offered this kind of work and do tankers tend to run more regional.

If Old Dominion is hiring I have seen drivers just out of school hired a few times. The driver is subject to more training than a experienced driver and I think must go through our 5 week training school. So others might have similar deals. Believe me you will probably need more training to. Never have met anyone that does not. I am not sure what the tanker fuel delivery companies require now but it use to be pretty easy to get those jobs. If you crash a tanker full of gasoline you better be real fast on your feet. RUN. Did not pay good either. But that info is old and it may be different now.

Yeah OD would pay you if they hired you. It might not take 5 weeks a lot would depend on what the trainers told the boss. You might be good to go sooner. My advice apply around set your goals high and work down till you find a place a lot depends on the demand for drivers at the time.

at od there is no training school you have to ride with a trainer for four weeks. All the trainer does is sleep the whole time and then occassinally wakes up says your driving good and goes back to sleep lol.

I know a few folks who pull tankers and they run nation wide.it depends on what you want.Try and find a LTL carrier first that will hire ya and like was said earlier get ready for things they don't teach ya in school. After all you will now be in the real world. LtL carriers are carriers like Con-Way Fed -X Yellow ABF Duie Pyle Roadway. Go file applications and see what happens. Most carriers take applications on line. Saves a lot of leg work.If nobody (and that is unlikely) will hire you without experience then you might have to start ourt with someone like Swift,JB Hunt,Schneider. This might have to be the way you go for at least two years. As a new guy to trucking the hardist thing to get used to is you will lose your family life for awhile.
