Default Newbie going to Star - Any Advice ?

I just graduated from C1 in St. Louis. I am going to Star Transport on Monday for training. Any advice about my training and being a newbie would be appreciated.

Get into LTL as soon as you can, more money and home more, keep your nose clean and a spotless driving record, the next year of your driving will determine if you will make good money or drive for bottom feeders

Good luck to you

THe only advice i have why star they are one of the lowest paid company out their 26 to 29 cents per mile, correct me if im wrong about the pay.If you are going to work at star because of those new shiny white peterbilts try tmc.Tmc have those new shiny black peterbilt chrome out with an aluminum trailer bed to take home with you with your name on the side of the door if you perfer to do flatbed.TMC will get you home 46 out of 52 weekend per year.I have a buddy that work for tmc.You should make between 42,000 to 50,000 a year.Crete carriers offers 33 cent to start and 38 cent on first year anniversity pratical miles full or empty on dedicated accounts.Rhoel is also pretty good 32 cents to start paid on pratical miles i beleave loaded or empty.I beleave those are the three best bottom feeders to work for low turnovers.Ltl are hard to break into i am about to give up and work for an bottom feeder myself towards the end of this year if cant get in a ltl company for my first year than try again for a ltl when i get experience.

Follow Jeff's advice. Follow through with the company that you chose to work for, get the experience, and keep your record clean by being safe. Listen to both the good and the bad from your trainer. Take the good and practice it. Take the bad and stay away from it.

Every company has its good and bad points. Every driver has a friend that works for Company XYZ and says that you should make between X amount of dollars. There are too many factors involved in calculating how much you should make at any company. The best thing to do is go forward with your career, learn from your mistakes, exercise patience, and do the best that you can. Best of luck to you and keep us posted.
