truck driver hopeful has a dwai question

I am about to apply to a school for my cdl training but i have a DWAI misdemeanor and 2 speeding tickets that i got a little over 5 years ago. I am 27 and i am single so i want this career really bad. will this hurt my chances and should i forget about being a truck driver or is it something that can be overcome? i was young when i got those and my record has been clean ever since. thank you

Hey Mesheldon1228, How is it going? It has been my experience that the tickets won't factor in much Most companies are omly checking back about 12 months. As far as the DWI I really couldn't tell you. I do know that if you get one with a comercial drivers license you will be automatically disqualified from driving for 90 days minimium. But if this was in your by several years I think it shouldn't be to much of a problem Just be honest and forthright and let the cards fall how they will. Another thing that may have some bearing is what type of personal auto insurance you have. I mean if you have to carry high risk insurance on your personal vehicle It may cause a company to think twice about hiring you. Just some tips to help you out.

Hey one other thing, I had my driving priviledges suspended when I was 17 for 90 day due to too many tickets. But by the time I went to apply for my first trucking job 8 years had passed since that time. So it wasn't an issue at all.because it was off my record. The beauty of the thing is if you haven't held a CDL in the past your recoed will should be clear of all of the tickets except for the DWI and you might call a lawyer and see if it went on your record or not. If it didn't it should be clear. If you have a clean record for the past 12 months you should be good to go.

well it wasn't a DWI,it was a DWAI which is far less serious than a DWI and like u i had my license taken for 90 days as well but that does boost my confidence though. thanks buddy.

Glad I could help. But like I said just try and find out what exactly is on your driving record and see if it is there if it is you might want to invest a little money with an attorney and try and get it removed form your record before you apply to trucking school. You can go to your local DMV and for aboiut 10.00 you can get a copy of your MVR. Which is your driving record. check it out and see what is there. You may not have a problem at all. You just need to see what your dealling with so that you can take the right steps to correct the problem.

Curious about this, what is a DWAI?
