Question City or Linehaul whats the best??

From what I have read in various threads so far, I am gonna guess that linehaul work is the type of work to go after. I always ASSUMED it would be local city work just because you drove less miles and were pd. hrly and had o.t. thrown in.I'd like to hear what your opinions are.Example, if you are city driver, is line haul your goal and vice versa. So let's hear from the guys who go out and do this stuff every day or nite. Me? I'm still debating wheather to go city or linehaul when and if this company (or any other company for that matter) calls me in,if I have a choice.

If you ask me Linehaul is the way to go. I've been a linedriver for Conway for 13yrs now and I'm still having fun. I tried local for 1yr and I was miserable, too many dispatchers and too many customers to deal with. The work load is pretty heavy also, between 20 to 25 stops per day, and I had an easy route. The money difference is huge I make double what a local guy makes and all I do is drive from point A to point B. At conway linedrivers work the dock, wich I dont mind, but at other companies such as FDX drivers dont touch freigt. Anyways thats my opinion I hope I was helpful.Have a nice day

that was very helpful prezars thanks!!
But why the big difference in pay?
Linedrivers are paid mileage right? Which means no O.T.
City pays hrly, and I'm assuming time n ahalf after 8 or maybe after 40? The way I'm lookin at it, and I may be wrong, which is why I am here getting teached about this stuff, but with city, don't you basically get paid for everything you do? Example--traffic,dock delays etc.
With linehaul being paid mileage,I would think alot of "situations" thay may pop up during the course of your run would go uncompensated. Remember I am just assuming and am looking for you all to straighten me out. Also, is the pay diff between linehaul an city driving "huge" with most ltl companies or maybe jus with Conway?

I've been a city driver working into my 44th year.
I like having a route that I have inter action with my customers.
They help me,and I'm always joking around with them.
I also like being off nights, and weekends.
Living in the cold snowy north I don't like driving in the night snow storms.
Its bad enough driving in snow storms in the day light hours, but at night your headlights shine on the snow flakes, and one wrong move, you could be looking for another career,or worse.

well if I lived in a snow free climate I may have been a road driver.
But most likely not.
I really enjoy doing multipal deliveries.
Even though its the same type of work ever day.
Every day has different things happening.

city drivers probably get paid 10 to 20 % lower per hour average than line haul. If the linehaul driver keeps moving. Also when business is slow the linehaul schedule often still runs where a city drivers hours may be reduced. Linehaul is almost always nights at least for several years or decades where city driving is almost all days except maybe some evening work. city driving is all about attitude and like apostolic says if you have a good attitude the customers help you. But I think that is a leaned trait.
