Default Newby, Schneider questions

hello all, newguy never been in a truck so please excuse ignorant questions. I'll make a list and any replies welcomed.
1. Applied to schneider 7 days ago, called,
said be patient. How long do they take to
let someone now if accepted?

2.They said for me to go ahead and get
CDL permit myself where I live to get
started, true?
3. I live in E. Tenessee (Knoxville) will I be
assigned to start trips near home?

4.Allowed to smoke(cigarettes) once school
is done and on road alone? ie:allowed to
smoke in their cabs?
Hope this is not too much to ask at once, thanks to any who help.

Birdog, you might also want to aply at US Express. I know a guy who hired on with them right out of truckdriving school. He was with a trainer I think 3 or 4 weeks. They seem to be keeping him busy with plenty of miles. He is out for 7-10 days. He seems to be happy with US Express.
Good Luck!!!

Also, my post wasn't clear, I was wanting to know about the driving school in Charlotte, NC that Schneider runs. I need to get into the training their as soon as possible and they aren't telling me much or responding to E-mails, just got the "be patient" on the phone. Which I understand, but its hard when your about to lose home and all. Thanks again everbody.
