Default Musical Companies

I am a new driver (8 months) and currently work for a nationally known company (you know the one with the automatic Volvos). It seems that what they advertise and what they deliver are not the same. (Go figure.) I do a lot of sitting and waiting for a job. It's always "hurry up and wait". Would it be harmful to my career to go somewhere else? Or, should I just "suck it up" for my first year? I have heard that company drivers are not going to make a lot of money, but I was hoping to do better than 30k my first year. I'm fairly sure that I am not ready to do the owner/operator thing yet. Thanks for your comments?

Do yourself a favor and go to as many as possible LtL carriers and place as many as you can applications. Union and non-union alike. Get away from the TL carriers as fast as you can. LtL carriers are those like Fed X,Yellow,Conway,Estes,ABF,Holland. The list is too big for me to mention them all. Go on line and fill out applications. Most carriers will now accept them on line. The LtL industry is where the money is.

Four more months is not that long, you will have a year in then, I would go to an ltl company, Conway, Fedex, or better yet one of the union ltl's, if you can survive on casual for a little while, heck if you like going to work early and getting off early, and don't mind hard work, try food service, that works for me, the money is in ltl though, the possibilities are endless, and you get home every night, or day depending on your job. If you are in it for the money, and want to be home go ltl, for foodservice try Sysco or US Foodservice you will make very good money with those two and they will hire you with one year, I know US Foodservice will anyway. Good luck, I say unless you just like being on the road, take a look at the above I am sure you will get alot of the same advice from the other members here.

Try to get on the lineboard for an LTL co. That's where you'll make some big bucks with lots of hometime.
