Hello folks! New guy here, name's Jeff. I am a United States Air Force Security Forces member (cop), currently assigned to Spangdahlem Germany. I will be PCS'ing to South Carolina where I will be finishing out my time in the Air Force. After that, I am going to join the Reserves and seek out a career! I was browsing available career paths and Trucking popped up, so I came looking for info!

Well, like I mentioned, I want to stay in the Reserves, so I prefer to stay around home (not necessarily home every night, but not exactly gone all the time). At least for now, once my wife gets settled in I may look into OTR, but I would prefer the domestic-type trucking, like driving for UPS or Fed-Ex, doesnt even have to be full-scale rigs, I'd take a normal UPS-size truck. I worked for Bell Nursery out of Columbia, MD for only a small bit of time. It would have been an awesome job, but they didnt TRAIN me to handle the 24' boxtrucks correctly (had an incident, which is why I didnt work too long), and I was the only person who spoke English (out of the drivers). I loved driving, but had I been taught how it would have been more enlightening. Right now I don't know how I would handle a large rig, but I do know I can handle a truck around 20-something feet. Anyway, sorry, I ran off in thought. How does someone go about getting a "close-to-home" kind of drving job?
