Question Over 7 Ton Limit Fine

Hi all

We live on a road with a 7 ton weight limit (Monterey County, Calif). I have always been curious... what is the fine for trucks that violate the weight limit? I have heard everything from $300 to $4000!

Thanks!

If you live on a county road with one of those 7 or 10 ton signs it doesnt mean much. I drove delivery tankers out on roads and bridges like that all the time and never had a problem with johnny law.

The farmers regularly run equipment on county roads that exceed that limit by far so If you are thinking of getting a driver that you dont like driving down your road busted you might think again. It aint gonna happen.

Actually, they do write them up quite often - in fact, they ticketed one today.

It is a county road, but it is very unique in that it runs right through a residential neighborhood, past two schools and a park. It is not like what you would think or when you think "rural road". We are an old company town, so we have blocks and sidewalks, etc. But, we are out in the middle of nowhere.

Anyway - I was just curious, since I have heard such a wide range, as to how much they really do cost.

Here in East Texas most county roads have a 29 ton limit. The commissioners have County weight cops to extort monies from the logging industry. 40 tons - 29 tons = 11tons over. An average fine of $2500.00.

Usually when I have been on low limit roads and bridges I had a reason. Some Reasons> Making a delivery in the area or got directions specifically asked if any low Clearance or weight restrictions and got a incorrect answer, Just plain lost hoping to find a way out. I have never crossed a bridge that felt like it was going to collapse and would hopefully turn around if it looked that bad or was a wooden structure or something. I do realize that it can damage the structure and rarely get in these situations.
