Welcome to Trucking Boards Don.

Werner, Swift, Schneider, etc. are all equally as crappy in most drivers eyes.

I started my career with Swift back in '98. I am probably one of the only few you will come across that has nothing bad to say about them. The pay stinks, and hometime is non-existent. But they took me with no experience, put me through school and paid for it as long as I worked for them. They kept up their end of the bargain till the day I left them. The equipment is also rather nice.

Although I never worked for Werner, They are about the same as Swift. The big difference would be paperless logs and Peterbilt's.

I hope this helps you a bit with your decision.

Thanks for your replies, guys. I'm in the same situation as Junction, just starting a new carreer trucking, at 53 yrs old. I worked for a local school board for 32 yrs as a maintenance mechanic & someone messed up the budget so bad that they had to cut 14 jobs, unfortunately, being the highest paid mechanic, by twice what the other two guys were making, so my position was eleminated two yrs short of my retirement. I went to driving school & just got my CDL A, & I plan to go with one of these companies for 6 months or a year & use them as a stepping stone to a better company after getting that experience.
