Exclamation Ice Road Truckers on The History Channel

Ice Road Truckers - Premiers on The History Channel June 17th, 10 PM ET

Hauling cargo by truck over the frozen tundra of Canada is a hairy job requiring steady nerves and solid judgment. The ice is constantly melting, freezing, and shifting underneath the tonnage of the giant trucks.

This new History Channel series brings viewers into the trucks and on to the tundra as it introduces the men who brave the ice and the marvels of their equipment and their nerves to get this job done.

The following pictures are shots taken from the show and sent to someone in a advance press kit for the show.

and just in case no one even noticed.........

that was a 57 foot trailer too...........

they are out there.............

along with 55 footers as well.

many years ago, when i was a newbie, i was driving through the southwest, around new mexico i believe. i was trying to pass an MNX(?) rig which was actually a set of triples of 55 footers...........

needless to say, the company truck i was driving couldn't get up enough power to pass him...........

it sucked big time being stuck behind him...

I don't think they could pay me enough money to do that, I hate the cold, I hate falling through the ice even more. I sure wouldn't do it in my own truck could you imagine the wrecker bill?

i gotta think that with all the stress of having a wrecker yank that rig out of the water would be cause for the ice to crack even more.

maybe they just leave everything in the water till it thaws, and send in a boat for the salvage rights....??

I remember back in the early eightys when I was making a pickup at a business east of my Rochester, NY Overnite terminal.
It was a cold snowy winter day.
I'd backed down a ramp, and had a hard time getting out.
I saw tire tracks on the flat to my left, and decided to try going that way across a field to another business, then down their driveway.
Well I hung the left, and just as I was going straight,my tractor drive tires went down in some water.
I soon found out I was on a small pond.
The tire tracks were from a pickup truck, that had got stuck like me on the ramp.
It took two large wreckers, with winches, and another four wheel drive truck to get me out.
It was such a long drawn out hassel, you'd never get me on any ice over water again.

I could never relate to anyone driving across water deep enough to sink a rig.
But I know what its like to think your safe, when the ice brecks leaving you completely helpless.
