| | truck drivers pay sucks
After a little less than 3 months driving, I have found that for the time spent driving plus the prep time, detention time, drop and hook time, paperwork and log time, time
spent fueling, waiting and waiting in line
for all of the above, that driving amounts to
a little more than minimum wage job. There
seems to be too many drivers willing to accept too little cpm or hourly rate for the
responsibility, time and experience that they
provide. I saw that of the approximate 3 million drivers that less that 150,000 are members of Owners Operators organizations
and unions. Truckers have the power to
change freight rates and corresponding
pay upwards if they organize and communicate with each other. I am
grateful for the $3000 per month I make but
frustrated that it is not double or triple that
amount as it should be for the time and responsibility that I have to invest. Your
thoughts on a reasonable monthly gross.
My amount is 6 to 9000 a month.

Who do you work for ? Most LTL drivers get paid for everything they do. I get paid for sitting on a table waiting for my bills or if I break down, everything.

The OTR drivers get ripped off for the most part. Lousy pay per mile,no or little retention pay and no pay if they sit to be unloaded or loaded back up.

yea, buddy... you're working for a bottom feeder. i dont work for an LTL company, and my job admittedly sucks because it's back breaking work, but I'm still paid component pay which averages between 26 to 30/hr so i'd say i'm making great money... and i get paid for layovers, breakdowns, unloading, backhauls, drop n hooks and pretty much everything else ....

Yep, I'd say he works for a company that doesn't pay much. Check around for another company that does pay more. The money in Trucking is there, you just have to find the Companies that pay it.
To answer your question: Yes there are companies that DO pay more. $3,000 a month? Nope, we make triple that....and sometimes more depending on how hard WE WANT to run.
We are members of OOIDA.
