Default Trucking industry

Thinking about getting into this industry. What are the best schools to go to get certified and best trucking companies to look at? Thank You for your responses. ( ps what about driver solutions good or bad as far as schooling)

I can't really answer your question except to say the industry has been good to me, I can't imagine doing anything else, you will always have a job, I am about to the 16 year mark I think and I still love it of course I am home every night, that makes a world of difference to me, there are LTL companies out there that will train you to drive then put you to work, might have to work the dock to start out, I have known several that went that route and it has worked for them. Best of luck!!

Unless you get very lucky you better be prepaired to go over-the-road. I just moved here to Florida, i have 4.5 years of driving experience and i cant find any local driving jobs so i guess i'll be over-the-road soon. Over-the-road drivers are in high demand since not alot of drivers like being gone weeks at a time.

That would depend on the area that you live in. Some places are always hiring, like Chicago. While other places like FL and TX don't have a lot of freight going out, so it's harder to get a job there.

Before signing up with a school that will cost you several thousand dollars, it may be worthwhile to look into a driver apprentice program offered by many of the major carriers in the country. Most require that you stay on with them for 1 year as a driver after obtaining your license. If these programs had been in place when I started thats probably the way I would have done it...Good Luck.
