| | Swift is a private co. now!
I went to Swift yesterday to talk to a recruiter. Swift is now a privately held company. They have changed there pay a little also. They pay .42cpm for runs of 25-149 miles and .36cpm for 150-199miles and .34 cpm for 200-249 and .32cpm for 250-299miles and .26cpm for everything over 300miles, for a new driver. They have pay scale increases now at 3mos,4mos,6mos,9mos and 1year. They also closed their driver school at Troutdale, Oregon. It is at their Lewiston, ID. terminal now. Unlike any other company, they will let my wife ride with me when I get assigned my own truck and will also give her FREE training if she wants to drive. If I pay for school upfront they will reimburse me in lump sum at six months of service. I talked to two drivers and the only down side they could give me was time away from home. But I am not obligated to be home because my wife would be with me. So overall I think they have changed a little for the better. Just thought I would let you all know what I found out.

Lets break it down:
-it's a privately held company, and "M" isnt trying to make you rich either.
-.26/ mile means their pay is horrible
- their pay is only slightly less horrible after 3, 6, 9, 12 mos
-most OTR companies have a rider program. at least all of the big name truck carriers do.
-their school is overpriced and you shouldn't have to pay a dime for it if you're going to work for them
-your darn right you'll be away from home for rediculous amounts of time
I dont want to sound rude, I'm just trying to be realistic.

| Again no one else is paying more. Quote: |

Schnieder has one after a minimum of six months by yourself and only if you meet all of your on quotas for performance. So, "maybe". Quote: |

| Roadmaster is $5,300.00. Swift is $3,900.00 including hotel, bus ticket, license etc. I don't mind paying for it as long as they are going to give it back in six months. Quote: |

| So be it. I don't care. I just want miles. Quote: |

If you want to go OTR, go with roehl. Most people here would reccomend that you go with a driver to dock program with an LTL company. I would reccomend starting at a foodservice or beverage company if you like physical work.

Brtecson is absolutely right. You'll be gone for an insane amount of time, regardless if your wife is with you, and you can bet that you'll be on the cheapest runs.

Marine68 , These guys are just trying to steer you clear of Swift (rightfully so). I have been retired for awhile and I retired from LtL but I have done my share of TL also..I recomend that you research companys a little.Schneider is better Rohel is better and there are others out there as well. Look at the ads on this web site for some help and go to our sister site ( Over The Road Truck Driver Forums - Powered by vBulletin )for TL carriers as well. These are two of the best sites out there for help. Our Sister site is geared more for the over the road carriers. My advise,Check it out. Good Luck
