New Driver! Need Help!

I live in los angeles and Im just starting out in this field and I want to know what my best options are. I have two kids< im 24 years old and I attend acting classes at night. What do I have to do and contact to get work from good companies and good pay. I also have to say that ive been convicted of a felony 7 years ago. Thanks for the help.

Obviously you want to be home, the good ltl co. out there may take a pass on you because of the felony, someone else may know more about that, there are the classes, my experience in ltl is new hires start late and get off late, want my advice...try food service, you are young and if you are not scared to work, like so many young guys now days are, then it may be the best fit for you, you go to work early and get off early, and you will make really good money, US Foodservice was just hiring for LA, they also hire for locations around LA, there is Sysco, that would be my advice for your situation, if you become a route driver, you will typicly start between 0300 and 0600 and get off by noon to 1700, who knows if the acting thing doesn't work out you may just find yourself a career, I love it, foodservice is my calling (job related) just check out the websites, you will have to go to a Sysco warehouse, they do not post non-exempt positions on the internet, do a google search on foodservice trucking in LA, if you are truly interested, let me know and I will be more than happy to see what I can dig up for you, just post back and let me know. Oh, another benefit is alot of the industry has gone to a 4 day work week with one day off during the week, mine is thursday and off on weekends, there may be sat. work, we do it but we rotate it and only have to work once every 4 months or so on sat., let me know I'm here to help.

I'll tell you from my experiences you having a felony i dont think you will be able to get hired at any of the good LTL jobs. When i first got my cdl i had a felony charge on my record. No one would hire me not even over-the-road companies. Than one recruiter told me to call and check on my record at the court house and low and behold i found out the court i was sentenced at wasnt able to charge me with a felony. They changed it to a misdemeanor. I was very lucky. My felony was because of a domestic violence charge. No i didnt hit my wife. Just her boyfriend i caught her in bed with. Another thing you might be able to do is have it expunged. Then no one can see it on your record except the FBI.

To grocery thrower and patrick, thank you very much for your info! Grocery Thrower, let me know anything and everything (within reason ofcourse) you know about the food thing. Im very interested. And to patrick, I have a strike and it was for attempted car-jacking. I was drunk and convicted 7 years ago.
